Marble-heavy legs in stirrups, and a mirror to the left. Lights
dimmed, a hand on my shoulder as masked strangers hover. Another
push. A head is reflected. It waits while I weep.

Very sharp imagery, very, very true.
ReplyDeleteOh...great minds do apparently think alike. I can't help but find the first bit terrible, the stirrups, the hovering masked strangers, the mirror...horror scenario. It's a lot more common here to give birth sitting up or squatting, in the tub with a midwife of your choice who you have come to trust. The clinic feel of the first bit was scary for me. But I can feel the tears of relief at the end.
ReplyDeleteA lot of mother-love remembered for this challenge. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteI love this. Stark, unsentimental and yet I can feel the love.
ReplyDeleteMindy, thanks for joining us this week. I love the contrast here between the stirrups, heavy legs, "it" and the idea of weeping for it. Nicely done. Come back and join us for the weekday challenge.
