Inadvertent by Sandra

The phone rang at 4am.
The annoying string of sharp, staccato rings yanked me from deep slumber.
No good news arrives at this hour.
Bracing myself, “Hello?”
Nothing but muffled noises echoed into my ear.
Fucking butt call.

  2. I presume this means it switched on by accident during a 'liaison?' :P http://shahwharton.blogspot.com/2012/03/trifecta-writing-challenge-row80-update.htm

  3. 'Butt calls' are inadvertent calls made when a phone is in the butt pocket and speed-dialed unknownst to the caller. It's a modern-day term, and actually in The Urban Dictionary. Anger from a butt call? I would be if I really got one at 4am! (Smile back).

  4. I've received those calls. I can't wait to call it that the next time I get one. :)

    1. When I get them, I'm always torn between hanging up immediately in annoyance or listening for some audible and possible gossip. =) But I'm sure a 4am butt call would clearly result in the former!

  6. As soon as we're relieved that it's not bad news, that last line leaves ALL our lips.
Perfectly capturing the confusion, worry then fury of a middle-of-the-night butt dial.
    Came from the Trifextra linkup.

  7. Ass dialing is made worse when it is sometimes my four year old ass who has kidnapped my phone to dial.

    1. A situation we moms all know, too well! But then again, it's kind of a good excuse to use even if it's not a 'kid call'. =)

  8. Tee hee! This light-hearted take is fantastic. There are a lot of heavy responses to the prompt. Fun stuff!

    1. Thanks, Nicole. I decide to enter this (my first Trifecta Challenge) on a whim, so I thought some silly will suffice. Yours is one of my faves!

    1. Just being silly. I don't usually have a foul mouth, so it's kind of funny, even to myself =).
