How small the box was, and heavy.
It would hardly hold a cantaloupe.
She forced her fingers into the pale grit. Like sand, and cold.
Are these ashes all that’s left of him?

Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteWow. This reminds me of a scene in the movie Swing Kids, where a box containing her husbands ashes and his wedding ring has just been delivered to a woman, and she realizes what it is and starts screaming in pain and horror...Wow...This has to be in the top three for sure this week. I really liked this one...Well done! :D
ReplyDeleteI've been there too many times. Your 33 brought all of those feelings back. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking up this weekend. You've managed to capture one of those painful, familiar experiences that so many of us have gone through without ever committing to paper. You've done it justice. Hope to see you back again soon.
ReplyDeleteThis one broke my heart. I wanted to say, 'Surely not. Maybe that's all that's left of his body, but all the things he's done in this world remain.'
